Google messages: universal texting like iMessage for android by default

Nowadays everyone has Google messages installed in their phones right? Excluding some OEMs like samsung or some off brand that does not ship Google messages as default. You can enable rcs chats on samsung phones which will be covered in the later part of this post. Follow on!

I've been wanting to write this blog post for quite some time now, so letting all out of my mind in this post in any manner. So, please read carefully.

You can now text anyone in your friend circle with just internet but it must have a sim card in it. Internet can be via Wi-Fi or mobile data, it doesn't matter.

There's something called as RCS chats which stands for rich communication system. A protocol made by Google for texting which they say is sms 2.0 for the internet.

Every phone has the RCS chats feature enabled by default if you bright your phone after the year 2021.

If it is not turned on you need to enable it by going into Google messages app's settings. Enable rcs chats. You might need to verify your mobile number in the process. It's exactly just like WhatsApp but minus all the spam you get on WhatsApp.

Also a good reminder, for this free sms thing to work you both need to enable rcs chat feature on your phones and then with Wi-Fi or mobile data you can text with your friend or group chat easily.

You can use Google messages on your computer, laptop or tablets via device pairing mode. It works just like WhatsApp web view.

So let me explain. If you don't have a sim card in your tablet, then you can pair your tablet with Google messages and receive your bank OTPs or your friends sms. Same can be done with computers.

This Google messages app is so good you don't need to fiddle with it like you would on WhatsApp when you get spam calls or texts. Google already has a good spam filter in the app. And if you get one you can block easily, help others from not receiving it.

You can schedule your messages in Google messages app. Suppose you want to wish someone happy birthday on a special time or remember someone something at a particular time you can use that feature.

Okay so if you have made until this let me help you understand the dynamics of this app. Like what does single tick and double tick does in this app. This might help you understand better.

Single tick means that the message has been delivered from your end.

Double tick in transparent color means the message has been received at the other end but not read.

Double tick in color means that the message has been read.

If you see a waiting symbol it means that the internet is turned off/ facing internet connectivity issues from your end or the other end. In that case if the message is urgent you could override and send it as an SMS.

If you see a chat symbol on the profile picture in your sms section, then that contact is rcs chat specific. Other sms might not show that symbol if you check your bank transaction sms. That profile photo would be empty.

How to enable rcs chats in Samsung phones?

Samsung messages also has rcs chat, you just need to enable it in the settings section of that app

Hope this detailed post helped you understand Google messages. Share with your friends and family.

Today, we will learn how to block advertisements on your browser. Don’t get me wrong I am not against advertisements but sometimes it becomes nagging after getting hit by the same ad everywhere. I have an Pentium  4 processor based computer and it cannot handle day-to-day tasks of the modern web.
